The Hesston High School boys’ cross country team will send one runner to state after competing in the Class 4A regional meet Saturday in Concordia.


The Hesston High School boys’ cross country team will send one runner to state after competing in the Class 4A regional meet Saturday in Concordia.

Riley Barker finished seventh for the Swathers in 17:53.03 to qualify for the meet Saturday at the Wamego Country Club.

Hesston finished fourth in the team competion, one spot out of team qualification. Wamego won the meet with 32 points, followed by Clay Center at 50 and Hiawatha at 105. Hesston had 131 points. The top three teams advance to state.

Also running for the Swathers were Zach Weber in 17th at 18:34.53, Drew Hageman in 21st at 18:57.76, Peter Jensen in 35th in 19:38.65, Jacob Penner in 52nd at 20:15.15, Cody Nuss in 55th in 20:20.49 and Nolan Casmir in 56th in 20:21.13.

The Hesston girls placed 11th. Concordia won with 51 points, followed by Wamego at 66 and Colby at 86. Hesston scored 228 points.

Hesston was led by Molly Peters in 18th in 17:42.32. Peters missed a state berth by three spots.

Emily Nickel was 26th in 18:11.84, followed by Liz Loeffler in 66th in 20:57.35, Elle Georgiou in 69th in 21:18.54, Megan Baumgartner in 71st in 21:26.91 and Emily Nuss in 75th in 22:16.77.
