Marlin Carol Seely died on Saturday (Oct. 23, 2010) at his home.
Marlin was born on Dec. 5, 1937, in Vassar, to Ralph B. and Zennie C. (Seyler) Seely. They preceded him in death.
Marlin was married to M. Darlene Wilson, who died on Sept. 8, 1973.
He later met and married Betty Louise Engelland Maris. They were married on Oct. 11, 1978, in Newton and recently celebrated their 32nd anniversary.
Marlin retired from Santa Fe Railway after working as a train dispatcher for 37 years.
Marlin was an athlete and participated in many sports throughout his life. He loved to golf, as well as hunt for ducks and geese. He was a life sponsor for Ducks Unlimited and attended many national meetings in various cities in North America.
He also was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, especially cruises. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his sons, Michael S. and wife Sharon D. Seely of Emporia, Curtis D. Maris and wife Lori A. Maris of St. Charles, Mo., and Glen A. Maris of Newton; and daughter, Suzanne L. and husband Gary L. Unruh of Richmond, Texas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Zennie Seely; first wife, M. Darlene Seely; brothers, Lyle and Don Seely; and sister, Bonna Jean Peterson.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Peterson Funeral Home in Newton, with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Church of Christ in Newton.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Admire Cemetery.
