The Goessel High School volleyball team returns to Hays for a state tournament, but a brand new state tournament.The Bluebirds won the Class 1A, Division I sub-state tournament Saturday in Burrton. This is the first year Class 1A schools were divided into two divisions.Goessel received a first-round bye. The Bluebirds downed Burrton in the semifinals 25-15, 25-18. In the finals, Goessel downed Rosalia Flinthills 25-11, 25-14.Jennifer VanHorn had seven aces and five blocks for Goessel. Paige Booton had 13 kills. Aimee Flaming had 25 assists. Tia Goertzen and Booton each had 10 digs.Burrton opened play with a 26-24, 25-23 win over Pretty Prairie in the quarterfinals. Burrton ends the season 12-21. Goessel is 25-11 and plays in the state tournament Friday and Saturday at Busch-Gross Coliseum in Hays.Class 1A, Division ISub-StateSaturday at BurrtonQuarterfinals — Burrton def.
