The Bethel College women’s soccer team won its third straight game, going five without a loss, stopping rival Tabor 4-1 Saturday at Thresher Stadium in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Bethel improves to 4-8-3, 3-2-2 in KCAC play. The Threshers clinch a KCAC post-season playoff spot with two games remaining. Bethel is in fourth place in the KCAC, holding a two-game lead over both Tabor and Saint Mary. The Threshers have wins over both teams.

Tabor falls to 1-12-3, 1-4-2 in KCAC play.

Megan Schrock scored two goals for the Threshers. Angelica Kaegi scored a goal with an assist. Brooke Hansen added a goal. Kelsie Wilson, Nakita Menefee and Caroline Mayhew each added an assist.

Victoria Cantu scored for the Bluejays with an assist to Adria Whitehorn.

“That’s great stuff for the women,” Bethel coach Jason Moore said. “We really worked on forgetting our non conference and concentrating on our conference schedule. We have two more games left. If we play well, we can do well. We’ve worked so hard this season, and it seemed like we weren’t getting any breaks. It was nice to see them go our way.”

“We gave up goals on broken plays two or three times,” Tabor coach Grant Brubacher said. “We didn’t react to plays in time. It didn’t bounce our way. Things didn’t go our way today. We played pretty hard. Tactically, we played well. We just didn’t make plays around the box.”

The Threshers controlled possession early, scoring on a Hansen header. Bethel scored again in the 39th minute on a short break by Schrock.

Tabor took less than two minutes to get back in the game.

Tabor had a number of possessions early in the second half, but failed to get many shots. Bethel put the game away when Kaegi slammed the ball off a Tabor defender, which deflected into the goal. Schrock finished the scoring with a goal with two minutes remaining in regulation.

Savannah Longoria had two saves in goal for the Threshers. Kalee Cross had seven saves for the Bluejays.

Tabor hosts Friends at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Bethel plays at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany.
