Evelyn Virginia Engelland, 94, died on Wednesday (May 26, 2010) at Presbyterian Manor in Sterling.
She was born on July 20, 1915, to John Orion and Mary Eva Stout Stubbs in Sterling, and was a lifetime Sterling resident.
She graduated from Sterling High School in 1931.
On April 22, 1934, she married Alvin Jurgen Engelland in Sterling. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2004.
Evelyn was a homemaker and farm wife.
She was a member of Midland Community United Church of Christ; a 60-year member of Queen Esther Chapter 32 Order of the Eastern Star; past matron of Keystone Chapter 47; and many other community organizations.
She is survived by her sons, John and wife Judy of Sterling, James and wife Sue of Ft. Worth, Texas, Richard and wife Noreen of Chipley, Fla., and Rodney and wife Barbara of Shawnee; daughter Betty L. Seely and husband Marlin of Newton; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son Robert; infant daughter Janeth; granddaughter Loreen; brothers Percy Stubbs and Lurton Stubbs; and sisters Bernadine Steierl, Esther Horton and Phyllis Ward.
Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Midland Community United Church of Christ in rural Sterling, with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating.
Burial will be at Sterling Community Cemetery in Sterling.
