A Moundridge native is participating in the Goshen (Ind.) College Study-Service Term in Nicaragua this summer, along with 17 other students. This is the third group to return to that country after 30 years. In 1978, the college stopped sending students to the Central American country because it was experiencing civil unrest that would result in 12 years of war and a devastated economy.
Isaac Yoder-Schrock, son of John and Marcia Yoder-Schrock of Moundridge, is a sophomore majoring in physics. He is a 2008 graduate of Moundridge High School and attends West Zion Mennonite Church.
He left for Nicaragua on April 28 and will return to the United States on July 27. Associate Professor of Social Work Jeanne Liechty and her husband Michael Dickens are leading the unit, along with their son Conrad.
Web updates and photos from the group are available from Goshen College’s SST Web site: www.goshen.edu/sst. Letters can be directed to: Apdo No. 23, Jinotepe, Carazo, Nicaragua, Central America.
