• To the school board member who wishes to re-visit the nepotism policy, shame on you. You were elected to the board to represent the people, not for personal gain for self or family.  If it were not for personal reasons, would you really want to re-visit this issue?

• If I had a blank check for Newton:
I would put the Train Museum in the old train depot and bring the Travel trains into town during day hours where out-of-town travelers would have a nice place to relax while waiting for the next train junction and draw people from all over to come see the history of the train.
I would also make the upstairs into sleeping rooms, for local residents who want loft apartments, and/or sleeping rooms for travelers going through.
I would also bring the Harvey House back into being for 24 hour eating pleasure downtown, along with train travelers waiting for late-night trains.
I would get rid of the ugly water fountain in front of the station and bring in local musicians to play and artists to exhibit their work for weekends in front of the depot.
I would also open the entrance back up on U.S. Highway 50 for South Park residents and give the gas station money to get started back up.
I would also fix the fairgrounds where they are, keep it local for the kids in town who like to go to the fair during the long summer months.
Please don’t sprawl Newton out where it’s difficult for people who don’t have transportation to get to activities.

• For crying out loud! Open the Kansan and there is an artist’s rendering of the proposed Harvey County fairgrounds buildings. I don’t have a horse! If I did, I’d spend more time at Wild West World, Prairie Rose Chuckwagon or Cowtown just down the road. This is Newton, “Small Town, No Apologies!” We need a county fairground-feel, one that represents domestic and 4-H talents and projects, farm animals, food exhibits to funnel cake stands, and I don’t want to go to a “saloon” to get it! This just looks like one big pony show to me and very disappointing. Please consider a more well-rounded rendering to better compliment our friendly, industrious community at county fair time.
