Lovina shared her joy last September at the arrival of her newest niece, Marilyn Schwartz. In her column last September, Lovina wrote:
“Now I am very excited as the good news arrived in time to put in this column. Congratulations to sister Emma and Jacob as they were blessed with another addition to their family. Marilyn Jane was born by C-section this morning. She is a very tiny bundle weighing 4 pounds, 10 ounces and is 17 inches long. Jacob says she has black hair.”
It is with deep sadness I announce the sudden and unexpected passing of baby Marilyn on Monday. Marilyn was a sweet and lively bundle who blessed and touched her family in ways that will long outlast her short life. Our thoughts and prayers are with Emma and Jacob.     In keeping with the column’s format, I’m including a recipe from the Amish Cook archives.

Homemade Banana Cake
    1 cup butter, softened
    2 cups sugar
    3 eggs, beaten
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 cup mashed bananas
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 cup buttermilk
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    3 1/2 cups flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Blend in mashed bananas. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and set aside. In a separate bowl, sift together baking powder, flour, and salt. Blend dry ingredients into banana-egg mixture alternately with buttermilk. Beat well. Pour into a 9- by 13-inch pan and bake at 350 degrees.
