• Thank God for Carolyn McGinn, for having the guts to vote for the increase. I hope the Republicans remember Mark Rhoades and Tom Schroeder, who voted against it. Do they care about education? Remember these things at election day. We have to do something to balance the budget. Don’t forget Wink Hartman, he has a lot to offer.

• If I had a blank check and could buy anything I could for Newton ... I would use my check for the space beyond the rodeo arena for the grounds for the fairgrounds.

• I would build a gas station that would be affiliated with the Wichita gas stations and have the same prices as Wichita.

• To the person who called in about whether it was a good thing or a bad thing with all the budget cuts. I am the proud mother of a Walton graduate this year, a proud Walton fourth-grader this year, and the proud mother of a second-grader at Walton. I would like to say the Walton schools are amazing. The teachers and staff are all great. Call and schedule an appointment and witness what these students are doing every day. The Walton school is absolutely amazing.

I thought the new library was only in the planning stage and was surprised to see it has a restaurant area. Newton is blessed with many eating establishments. Why do the taxpayers need to build another one?
