• If you received a letter from the Australian Lottery claiming you have won a huge sum of money, please don’t participate in any way, shape or form. This is a scam. Just wanting the nice folks of Newton to know that.

• Why is it the school system has not come forward to help government resolve the financial problems? Why doesn’t the school system take pay cuts like other businesses have done?

• About the Logistics Park, my wife’s town in Missouri got a Wal-Mart distribution center a few years ago. It tripled the traffic and drove house prices double what they were before. It made a warm and friendly little Ozark town, a nice retirement community, into nothing. About the wind energy: Ethanol had a big boom once, too. Now it’s on its rear. Now they’re struggling to stay alive. This can only go so far.

• While helping Haiti rebuild, I hope someone teaches these people to practice birth control to help the welfare of the country. There are too many orphans there for any one place to have. They should work for a better lifestyle. Maybe, if they worked more, they’d be too tired to produce more unwanted babies.

• Scott Roeder may say he killed Dr. Tiller to save unborn babies, but he didn’t think about the trauma done to the young children seeing and hearing Dr. Tiller get shot dead in a church of God. That is unthinkable.

• In reference to the guest column in the Kansan “Kansas Logistics Park: Is it a good thing?,” we have the same questions. How much is this going to cost the taxpayers in addition to all the other city of Newton desires?”

• I am wondering who is paying for all the sidewalks being repaired in the residential areas in the city? If the property owner doesn’t pay, it won’t go on the tax rolls at the end of the year, payable in 2011. How many will pay? How many won’t pay? What is the city’s obligations?

• I definitely think 2010 will be better than 2009, and the main reason I think this is because on May 1, the Alternative Elvis Tribute is going to be at the Historic Fox Theatre. It doesn’t get any better than Elvis; he can make us all feel good about ourselves.

• If the city would enforce the rules on Saturday at the activity center on the 15- and 30-minute parking, they could clean up and make a lot of money.
