Question: It’s open forum week. What’s on your mind?

• Our city council is raising the water (rate) again in April. The amount they jumped it up to ought to last for at least a couple of years. Let everybody get used to that. If you have $14,000 to pay someone to figure out this water system, maybe you ought to put that toward the water system. Let everyone get adjusted to the water rates for a couple of years. You’re going to make money this summer when everybody waters their flowers in their yards.

• I want to thank all the good, kind, caring people in the world. A special thank you to the lady who helped me open my car this morning.

• The story in the Jan. 22 Kansan asking if the Kansas Logistics Park is a good thing — in my 74 years in this town this has to be the best article that’s ever appeared in The Newton Kansan. I could only hope and pray the writers, Don Esch and Dallas Klaassen, would please consider running for the city commission. We need people like you. Most of us agree this used to be a beautiful town. Now it’s going down the drain along with our tax dollars. We've got to vote these big spenders out of office.  Let’s get this town back like it used to be or at least try.

• It is important I remember to go to the county clerk’s office and change my political affiliation from Democrat to Republican so I can vote against Todd Tiahrt in the primary election. It is in the primary that a new senator for Kansas will be elected because there is no viable Democratic candidate.

• Apparently the government hasn’t done enough to stop terrorist attacks. The last one was stopped by a private citizen. That’s odd. We like heroes, and we don’t even know his name.

• The Liberals have thrown Jesus out of the boat, and now there is no one to calm the storm.
