Newton resident Kathy Nelzen was elected secretary for 2010 in the Kansas Authors Club.

Since 1904, the club has offered the opportunity for writers to share experiences and problems unique to their profession, not only to novices but also to authors of national reputation.

While magazines and books may be helpful in improving one’s writing skills, there is no substitute for the camaraderie enjoyed or the expertise developed when poets, playwrights and prose writers meet to listen, discuss and analyze their craft in an atmosphere of mutual support.

Kansas Authors Club Offers, among many other things, annual writing contests, workshops conducted by successful authors, district contests for members, area meetings and workshops.

News of writing contests other than those of KAC, marketing suggestions for member manuscripts and constructive critique from fellow writers. Many communities have monthly meetings for sharing, critiques, poetry readings, etc.

Anyone interested in writing may apply for membership in the Kansas Authors Club. Check http://skyways.lib.ks.us/orgs/kac for details.
