BURRTON — The Peabody-Burns boys’ basketball team edged Berean Academy 47-41 Saturday in the championship game of the Burrton Invitational.
Peabody-Burns jumped to a 12-3 lead in the first quarter and led 19-13 at the half.
Aaron Topham led Peabody-Burns with 12 points. Jacob Simmonds and Brian O’Neal added nine points each.
Caleb Hoover scored 14 points for Berean Academy. Lonnie Penner scored 10.
Berean Academy is 11-1 and hosts Goessel Feb. 2 in Elbing. Peabody-Burns is 11-2 and hosts Sedgwick Feb. 2.
THIRD PLACE — The Goessel Bluebird boys fell to Pretty Prairie 57-53 in the third-place game.
Pretty Prairie led 32-23 at the half.
Aaron Reimer scored 18 points for Goessel, followed by Weston Hiebert with 11.
Josh Kaufman and Hunter Pittman scored 16 points each for Pretty Prairie, 12-2. Joe Lampe added 15.
Goessel is 6-6 and plays Friday at Little River.
FIFTH PLACE — Alex Santiago scored 28 points to lead Burrton to a 42-37 win over Little River in the consolation finals.
Burrton led 24-19 at the half.
Little River, 2-10, was led by Greg Prescott with 16 points. Skylor Hill added 10 points.
Burrton is 10-4 and hosts Pretty Prairie Feb. 2.
