MANHATTAN (AP) –– Pawnee Mental Health Services in Manhattan has laid off 18 employees and will not fill 16 vacant positions.
The cuts were announced Monday after the Pawnee Board of Directors approved a budget reduction of $750,000 for this fiscal year. Pawnee officials say cuts in state aid and Medicaid reimbursements led to the job reductions. Eight other employees at the health services center had their hours or pay reduced.
The state Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services’ budget was reduced by $12.2 million in November, including a 10-percent reduction in Medicaid reimbursement rates.
Pawnee had already cut 31 positions during an earlier round of budget reductions early last year.
