• Zion Lutheran Church will have a New Year’s Eve Service at 7 p.m. today. The church is at 225 S. Poplar St.


• Pastor Paul from at St. Luke Presbyterian Church will begin a new series Sunday titled “Great Bible Stories” with “Burning Bush,” according to Exodus 3:1-14.

The new series will go straight to the source, the Holy Bible, and its amazing true stories that affect our lives daily.

The worship service will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 808 E. Sixth St. in Newton.

Children’s Church for ages 3 years to the third grade and nursery care for children birth through 3 years is offered during the service.

The church also has Sunday school classes for all ages at 9:15 a.m., and church members ask residents to join them as they have continental breakfast and fellowship at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

• First Presbyterian Church will provide a nursery for all morning services. It will have Sunday school classes for all ages from 9:15 to 10:10 a.m. Sunday. Fellowship time will be from 10:10 to 10:30 a.m. in the narthex.

The First Presbyterian Church worship service at 10:30 a.m. will feature the message by Pastor Jim Anderson, special music by the chancel choir singing “Beautiful Savior,” and the ordination and installation of church officers.

This is “Gifts for the Baby” Sunday. Church members may bring packages of diapers for babies, which the Deacons will distribute to families in need.

Following the worship service, the Deacons of First Presbyterian Church will provide a soup luncheon for all church members and visitors.

• First Presbyterian Church middle and high school youth groups will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.


• Boy Scout Troop No. 123 will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church.

• Zion Lutheran Church’s Active Seniors will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church.

• Zion Lutheran Church’s Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church.


• First Presbyterian Church middle and high school youth will meet at 7 a.m. Tuesday at Druber’s for devotions and doughnuts.


• The Women’s Fellowship United Church of Christ will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 210 E. Fourth St. Program and devotions will be by Gloria Kater. Hostess will be Gloria Webber.

• First Presbyterian Church Bible at Breakfast will meet at 8 a.m. at C.J.’s Pancake House for Bible study and breakfast. All those interested are invited.

• The First Presbyterian Church bell choir will rehearse at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The chancel choir will rehearse at 7 p.m. in the choir loft.


• The St. Mary Altar Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the St. Mary school cafeteria at 101 E. Ninth St. The program will be a regular meeting. Hostesses will be Charlotte Gehrer and Phyllis Prouty.

• The Walton United Methodist Women will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Walton church. The leader is going to be Joyce Dufriend. The program will be about 2010 planning. Hostess will be Carolyn Rowland.

• The First Presbyterian Church Women’s Coordinating Team will meet at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the church.
