PLANO, Texas — John W. Meek, 86, passed away on Thursday (Dec. 24, 2009) due to cancer complications. 
He was born on July 20, 1923, in Idana to John and Mildred Marsh.
John served his country during World War II as a Navy ensign. He graduated from The University of Kansas in 1948, working as a geophysicist in the oil and gas industry until retirement. Once retired, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and playing golf and bridge.
He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta Lee Huffman; two sons, Dale Meek and wife Nancy, and Bruce Meek; a daughter, L. Paige Cormier; a son-in-law, George Richardson; and six grandchildren, Stefani Meek, Austin Richardson, Cameron Meek, Allyson Cormier, Taylor Meek and Nicole Cormier.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay Richardson. 
Visitation was Monday at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home in Dallas.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church, 3901 Northstar Road in Richardson, Texas, with Dr. Don Lewis officiating. 
Interment will be Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
