PLANO, Texas — John W. Meek, 86, passed away on Thursday (Dec. 24, 2009) due to cancer complications. He was born on July 20, 1923, in Idana to John and Mildred Marsh.
John served his country during World War II, as a Navy ensign. He graduated from The University of Kansas in 1948, working as a geophysicist in the oil and gas industry until retirement.
Once retired, he enjoyed spending time with his family and playing golf and bridge.
He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta Lee Huffman; two sons, Dale Erwin Meek and Bruce Alan Meek; one daughter, L. Paige Cormier; one son-in-law, George Richardson; and six grandchildren, Stefani Meek, Austin Richardson, Cameron Alan Meek, Allyson Cormier, Taylor Meek and Nicole Cormier.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay Diane Richardson.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church, 3901 Northstar Road in Richardson, Texas, with Dr. Don Lewis officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home in Dallas. Interment will be Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
