Bethel College Mennonite Church invites members of the community to Christmas services this weekend:

At 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, there will be a “Let there be light around the world” worship led by children and youth of the church.

At 11 p.m. Thursday there will be a candlelight service of “Lessons and Carols.”

At 9:30 a.m. Sunday there will be a “Prelude of Christmas Music” by organist Christopher Shaw.

At 10 a.m. Sunday will be worship, followed by a time of refreshments and fellowship.

Bethel College Mennonite Church is at 2600 College Ave. in North Newton.

slates service

The First Presbyterian Church Christmas Eve Candlelight and Communion service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

The chancel choir will present the special music, “O Holy Night,” arranged by John Purifoy.

The service is open to all.

WALTON — Walton United Methodist Church will worship at 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve with a candlelight service of carols and holy communion.

The community is invited.

Zion Lutheran slates services

Zion Lutheran Church will have a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The church also will have a Christmas day service at 10 a.m. Dec. 25.

Grace Hill sets

Christmas service

Grace Hill Mennonite Church will have its Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The program, “Silent Was the Night,” will be presented by the children and the choir.

Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall following the service.

Guests are welcome at this traditional Christmas service, which has been held on the evening of Christmas Eve at Grace Hill Church for well more than 100 years.

The church is seven miles east of Newton on First Street, a mile south and a half-mile east.

Alexanderwohl plans events

GOESSEL — Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel will have several Christmas events in the coming days.

At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, the church’s Handbell Choir, under the direction of Mary Schmidt, will provide special music. Also, the Chancel Choir, led by Renae Schmidt Peters and accompanied by Marcia Brubaker and Karen Unruh, will present “The Christmas Story According to Saint Luke,” composed and arranged by Roger Wagner.

On Christmas Eve, the Sunday School department will share the Christmas story at 7 p.m. Youths in first through eighth grades will present “Signs of Christmas,” created by Pam Andrews.

The annual Christmas Day worship service will begin with the organ prelude at 9:45 a.m., with Karen Unruh at the organ.

The remainder of the one-hour service will include Christmas carols and prayers, a meditation by Pastor Linda Ewert and special music by Kyle Unruh on trumpet. Unruh is a senior at Bethel College.

The church is a mile north of Goessel on Kansas Highway 15.

First United Methodist Church, 801 N Main will hold Christmas Eve services.

At 7 p.m. there will be a candlelighting and communion service featuring carols of Christmas, the Christmas story, a Christmas meditation titled “Where’s the Baby Jesus?, the Sacrament of Holy Communion and lighting the Christmas candles.

At 11 p.m., there will be a contemporary candlelighting service featuring carols of Christmas sung to contemporary and traditional music, multi-media elements, the Christmas story, a Christmas meditation, and lighting the Christmas candles.

Salem United Methodist Church will have its Christmas Eve Service at 11 p.m. Thursday..

There will be a service of Christmas songs, candlelight and communion.

All are invited to the informal celebration of the birth of the Christ Child at 115 Old Main St. in Newton.

After-Christmas supper set

An “Afterglow Lantern Light Christmas Supper” will be offered at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the downstairs banquet hall at the Old 1877 Meeting House at East 12th and Logan streets in Newton.

The event is free and open to the public.

There will be a few tableside testimonies, a few carols and food.
