Marion 21, Hillsboro 20 OT
MARION — The Marion Warriors won the battle, but lost the war in Class 3A, District 9 race.
A Brian Fruechting PAT kick after a one-yard Matt Sprowls touchdown run gave the Warriors a 21-20 overtime win over the Hillsboro Trojans Thursday, but Hillsboro still won the district title on the 13-point tie-breaker.
Marion, Hillsboro and Southeast of Saline all finished district play 2-1, but Hillsboro was at +24, followed by Southeast at +13 and Marion at +1. Hillsboro, 6-3, wins the district title and will host Sedgwick at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Southeast of Saline, 8-1, which beat Herington 38-0 Thursday, will travel to unbeaten Hutchinson Trinity at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Marion ends the season 6-3, 4-1 in its final season of Mid-Central Activities Association Mid-Division play. Hillsboro finishes 2-3 in MCAA Mid play.
Hillsboro scored first when Taylor Hagen caught a 17-yard pass from Jacob Fish.
Marion came back in the second quarter on a one-yard Sprowls run and a 35-yard Drew Maddox run.
Hillsboro tied the game in the third quarter when Fish threw a 14-yard pass to Hagen.
In overtime, Hillsboro scored on a 10-yard pass from Fish to Ben Bebermeyer, but the extra-point kick failed.

Sedgwick 56, Remington 40
WHITEWATER — The Sedgwick Cardinals claimed a Class 3A playoff berth after a 56-40 win over the Remington Broncos Thursday in rural Whitewater.
Sedgwick ends the regular season 7-2, 4-2 in Heart of America League play and 2-1 in district play. Remington ends the season 6-3, 4-3 in HOAL play and 2-1 in district play.
Wade Hansen led the Sedgwick charge with 31 carries for 248 yards and four touchdowns. Trent Stucky rushed 17 times for 169 yards and three touchdowns. Chase Cargile added a rushing touchdown.
Remington quarterback Caleb Cherryholmes hit 12 of 23 passes for 220 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Matt Jacobs added a passing touchdown. Jerry Bennett had 23 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown. Bennett added a 91-yard kickoff return for a score. Jake Green caught six passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Jacobs had five catches for 121 yards and a score.
Sedgwick opens the Class 3A playoffs at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hillsboro.

Moundridge 14, Chase Co. 8
COTTONWOOD FALLS — Moundridge High School’s Caleb Critchfield rushed the ball 24 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns to hand Chase County a 14-8 loss Thursday in Class 2-1A district play.
Moundridge wins the district title at 2-0 and hosts Humboldt at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Moundridge is 3-6 while Humboldt is 4-5.
Critchfield scored in the first quarter on a 20-yard run. He scored in the second quarter on a three-yard run. Jared Kaufman hit both PAT kicks.
Chase County scored in the fourth quarter on a Jesse Cole two-yard run, followed by a Shawn Talkington run for a two-point conversion with 11:17 remaining.
Shelby Sparks added 57 rushing yards for Moundridge.
Chase County falls to 5-4, 1-1 in district play, and plays Tuesday at Olpe.

Pretty Prairie 26, Goessel 16
GOESSEL — The Goessel Bluebirds were downed by Pretty Prairie 26-16 Thursday in Eighth-Man Division I district play in Goessel.
A 12-0 second quarter for Pretty Prairie proved to be the difference in the game.
“We played a tough Pretty Prairie team tonight and fought hard the whole night,” Goessel coach Justin Coup said. “We played well enough to win, but just gave away too many points. We will have to regroup and get ready for Tuesday’s game at Central of Burden for the bi-district championship.”
Cameron Stultz rushed for 100 yards for Goessel for a touchdown. He also added a receiving touchdown. Jonathan Berkholz rushed for 47 yards. Neal Brubaker hit seven of 12 passes for 43 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Weston Hiebert caught two two-point conversion passes.
Pretty Prairie enters the playoffs 9-0, winning the district title. Goessel falls to 7-2, playing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Burden.

LOST SPRINGS — Tanner Bruner rushed for 189 yards and passed for 63 more to lead the Centre Cougars to a 46-16 win over St. Paul Thursday in Eight-Man II district play in rural Lost Springs.
Centre finishes the regular season 7-1, 4-0 in district play. St. Pauls falls to 5-3, 2-2 in district play.
Brunner rushed for four touchdowns and passed for two.
Trevor Troutt added 91 rushing yards. Rustyn Kerbs rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown. Kerbs caught a touchdown pass.
Centre opens the playoffs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, most likely against South Haven.

BURRTON — The Burrton Chargers ended the season falling in a shootout against Chase 93-60 Thursday in Eight-Man II district play in Burrton.
Chase’s Jake Kizzar rushed for 613 yards on 32 carries with 10 touchdowns. Kizzar added a kickoff return for a score.
Scott Root added 86 rushing yards with two touchdowns.
Burrton’s Tyler Bruton tried to keep pace, carrying the ball 29 times for 265 yards and five touchdowns. Bruton also threw a touchdown pass. Daniel Nevarez added 84 rushing yards with a touchdown.
Chase led 42-36 at the half, but used a 30-8 third quarter to break the game open.
Chase ends the season 5-4. Burrton ends the season 1-8.
