Katie Cornejo has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of her 2 1/2-year-old stepdaughter.

A Wichita woman has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of her 2 1/2-year-old stepdaughter.

Twenty-eight-year-old Katie Cornejo originally had been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Daytona Robertson.

Prosecutors say the child went into a coma in February 2008 after being taken to a hospital with severe injuries. She died several days later.

A mistrial was declared during Cornejoís trial in April after a Sedgwick County jury could not reach a verdict. She had been scheduled for trial again next month.

In court Tuesday, Cornejo entered an Alford plea, which means she didnít admit guilt but accepted a sentencing deal offered by prosecutors. Cornejo will be sentenced Dec. 4. If she has no prior convictions, prosecutors will recommend she serve four years and seven months.
