Newton artist Mary Johnson will conduct a watercolor collage class from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Carriage Factory Gallery, 128 E. Sixth St.

Students attending previous classes have completed at least one small watercolor collage during the course of the class.

“You don’t need to be an artist to enjoy this class, so come prepared to have fun,” a gallery news release stated.

Earlier this year, Johnson was named runnerup in the Beyond The Brush competition sponsored by Watercolor Artist Magazine. Her collage painting, “Pansy,” was one of many entries submitted to this competition.

“Originally, I began painting realistic watercolor, which I enjoyed, but I was never quite satisfied with the completed composition,” Johnson said of the technique she used to create this painting. “After taking a workshop in watercolor abstract collage, I was hooked — it was like I was a child again, enjoying the process and just having fun painting.”

A supply list for Mary's class is available from the Carriage Factory Art Gallery.
