• We really enjoyed the Diamond D Wranglers in the park this year. That might be another area you could expand, with different things pertaining to the Old West. There could be projects and things to view.

• The last time I saw a woman under the age of 50 driving in Newton without a cell phone stuck to her ear was in November of 2007. The next one I see will receive a crisp $100 bill. I’m not kidding. The Green Phantom is watching!

• We’d like more family oriented music at Athletic Park — the Big Band sound, country, gospel, rock and roll. More like we had 10 years ago. We had out-of-town guests here for the weekend, and we were embarrassed to take them to such raunchy programming. Also, please cut off events before midnight. Half the town can’t go to sleep until they shut down. Too long, too late, too loud.

• No Newton High School jazz ensemble concert, no Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra performance, no Newton-Area Jazz Band or Boeing Big Band shows this year; just one country/western combo and six rock n' roll groups. Whatever happened to variety? The event this year should have been named the “Chisholm TEEN Festival.”

• I have been in the school system for 15 years. We are not getting a raise this year because of budget cuts. They expect the teachers, paras and everyone else to work without a raise this year. So, the budget cuts need to start at the top with the administration. But I have not heard them say they are going to suggest they are going to take any kind of budget cuts.
