The city of Newton’s annual street overlay project is scheduled to begin Monday.

The contractor, Kansas Paving, will mill off existing asphalt and repave the following streets:

• Monday through Friday: Mill Broadway Street from Walnut to Main streets, Oak Street from Fifth to Seventh streets, and Pine Street from Sixth to Broadway streets.

• June 8 through 12: Repave Broadway, Oak and Pine streets.

• June 15 through 18: Mill Eighth Street from Pine to Main streets and Poplar Street from Broadway to Eighth streets.

• June 19 through 22: Repave Eighth and Poplar streets.

Milling and overlay on West 12th Street from Main to Anderson streets, and on Oak Street from First to Fourth streets will be completed later this summer.

Kansas Paving will deliver notices to the properties adjacent to the planned work.

During milling operations, some through traffic will be allowed on the streets, but when paving begins, traffic will be limited if not closed off completely on the day of construction.

In those cases, the contractor again will deliver notices to alert residents they will need to have vehicles out of the area prior to the paving work and will not be able to get back in until the paving is complete.

All work will be subject to weather conditions.
