Regional results used to score rained out meet




While probably not the preferred way the Railers would have liked to have done it, the Newton High School boys’ and girls’ track teams dominated the competition in winning the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division II titles.
The championship meet was scheduled for May 15, but thunderstorms forced cancelation of the meet. Instead, regional performances were used and scored for the league title.
The Railer boys downed Campus 222.5-98 for the title. Valley Center was third, followed by Winfield, McPherson and Arkansas City.
The Railer girls downed Winfield 180.25-104.25 for the title. Valley Center was third. Arkansas City and McPherson tied for fourth. Campus was sixth.
For the Railer boys, Newton won the 4x800-meter relay in 8:17.90. Newton won the 4x100-meter relay in 42.40. The Railers won the 4x400-meter relay in 3:25.20.
Newton finished 1-2-3 in the high jump, led by Garrett Garcia at 6-4, Roland LaCoste at 6-4 (tied for school records) and Taylor Porter in third at 6-0.
In the 200-meter dash, Grant Loescher won in 21.90, followed by Nathaniel Martens in second at 22.40 and Isaiah Thaw in third at 22.60.
Loescher tied for first in the 100-meter dash at 10.9, followed by Martens in third at 11.00.
Martens won the 400-meter dash in 50.10, followed by Brian Baker in third at 51.60 and LaCoste in fourth at 52.00.
Miguel Johns won the 300-meter low hurdles in 39.30, followed by Alex Dorrell in fourth at 42.50. Johns took second in the 110-meter high hurdles, followed by Dorrell in third at 16.10.
In the shot put, Evan Kaufman won at 51-5 3/4, followed by Tyler Rambo at 50-4 and Adam Esau in fourth at 48-3 1/4.
Rambo won the discus at 140-0.
Levi Herring tied for first in the pole vault at 13-0. Rodrigo Maganaz took third at 12-0.
Thaw took second in the long jump at 21-10, followed by LaCoste in third at 21-10.
Levi Minkevitch was third in the javelin at 141-2. Cory Gouvion took third in the 800-meter run in 2:02.80. Dilan Winter was fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:05.40.
For the Railer girls, Newton won the 4x800-meter relay in 10:09.70, a school record. Newton won the 4x100-meter relay in 49.50, a school record. The 4x400-meter relay team took second in 4:18.50.
Meg Ingwerson Won the 200-meter dash in 25.80, followed by Katie Loescher in second in 26.40. Ingwerson tied for first in the 100-meter dash in 12.50.
Erin Bradley won the discus in 112-10, followed by Jennifer Scott in third at 91-8.
Sadie Minkevitch took second in the shot put at 33-0 1/4, followed by Bradley in fourth at 32-5 1/2.
Shannon Ahlstedt took second in the 800-meter run in 2:30.30, followed by Mallorie Coffman in fourth at 2:33.70.
Loescher tied for second in the high jump at 4-10. Alyssa Tolle and Maria Jantz tied for second in the pole vault at 7-6.
Jamie Hansen took second in the 100-meter high hurdles at 15.90, followed by Riley Roberts in third at 15.90.
Alexis Coffey took second in the long jump at 15-11.
Emily Runge took third in the triple jump at 31-11 3/4. Jessica Armstrong took third in the javelin at 84-10. Katelin Gaeddert took third in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.10. Roberts took third in the 300-meter low hurdles in 50.70.
Erin Loeffler was fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:46.70.
Newton competes today at the state championships at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
