The public is invited to attend an open house 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Historic McKinley Administration Center in honor of Historic Preservation Month.


The public is invited to attend an open house 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Historic McKinley Administration Center in honor of Historic Preservation Month.

McKinley Administration Center is at 308 E. First Street.

Built with WPA funds in 1938 in Georgian Revival Style from plans by Wichita architect Lorentz Schmidt,the McKinley School replaced the 3rd Ward School, which was built on the same location before 1884.

The open house will begin with a tour of McKinley Administration Center at 1:30 pm.

Refreshments will be available at 2 p.m. with a McKinley Residential Historic District neighborhood meeting at 2:15 p.m.

The meeting is open to the public and will include a presentation on State Rehabilitation Tax Credits given by Kristen Johnston from the Kansas State Historic Preservation Office.
