The trial has started for a man accused of holding a Wichita-area convenience store clerk captive for three days while he raped and sodomized her.

Robert Abner is charged with ten counts, including kidnapping, in the June abduction of the Viola clerk.

During opening statements Wednesday, Sedgwick County prosecutors said Abner robbed the clerk at gunpoint and then forced her to a Wichita home, where he tied her up and raped her repeatedly.

But the defense said that the clerk left willingly with Abner and that he planned on taking her home that evening but became nervous because of the media attention.

The clerk eventually was released at a pastorís home. Abner was arrested at an Oregon motel several days later.
