Gov. Mark Parkinson has submitted a request for federal assistance to defray the costs associated with storms that struck the state March 26 to 29.

Harvey and Marion counties are included in that request for public assistance, which would help pay for emergency protective measures, debris removal and infrastructure repair.

Some areas of the state received as much as 30 inches of snow in the storm that caused millions of dollars in damage.

At the time, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius signed a declaration order for 62 Kansas counties.
