Burt and Gerry (Irby) Sanders will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 5.

They were married at the Presbyterian Church in Hill City.


Burt and Gerry (Irby) Sanders will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 5.

They were married at the Presbyterian Church in Hill City.

They have lived in Newton most of their married years, except for three years in Wichita when Burt was promoted to assistant manager with Metropolitan Life. They moved back to Newton when Burt established his own insurance agency.

Burt was director of development for 17 years at Youthville and 10 years as vice president of development for the Corporate Office of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America.

Gerry worked as a secretary in Wichita and Newton before becoming a full-time homemaker. She has been active in the women’s organization, choir and various other church activities at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church.

They have two children, Craig, who lives in Denver, and Cheryl, who teaches in Lawton, Okla. They are planning to join their parents for this occasion. They have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
