Eugene M. Busenitz, 70, passed away Tuesday (May 26, 2009) at HCA-Wesley Emergency Room in Wichita.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater, with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m.


Services will be Monday, with burial at 9:30 a.m. at Emmaus Mennonite Church Cemetery in rural Whitewater and celebration of life service at 11 a.m. at Grace Community Church in Newton.


Eugene M. Busenitz, 70, passed away Tuesday (May 26, 2009) at HCA-Wesley Emergency Room in Wichita.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1938, the son of Edgar W. and Elma E. (Regier) Busenitz.

Upon graduation from Berean Academy, he attended Grace Bible Institute.

After the Korean War, he served as a conscientious objecter at Menninger Clinic in Topeka as a psychiatric aide.

On Sept. 16, 1960, he married Myrtle Loy Harder in Newton. To this union, five children were born. He was a farmer and raised livestock. He served in the past as the president of the Kansas Pork Producers. Eugene was hardworking for his family, his community and his Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Loy of the home; son, Brent of Newton; daughters, Terry Rickel and husband, Tim, of Weatherford, Okla., Kathy Penner and husband, Leon, of Wichita, and Yvonne Dakwar and husband, Elias, of Crowley, Texas; grandchildren, Brittney Rickel, Alexis Rickel, Christopher Penner, Corinne Penner, Michael Dakwar, Lisa Dakwar and Joel Dakwar; a sister, Dorothy Kasten and husband, Ellis, of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Stanley.
