Pauline Louise Lemmer, 81, Kansas resident, died Thursday (May 21, 2009) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. She was born on Dec. 10, 1927, near Oconto, Neb., to Gerald Louis Carr and Agnes Maude Shindle. Pauline joined in marriage with Henry James Lemmer on Aug. 5, 1944, in Norton. He was her singing cowboy, and they were together until his death on Feb. 23, 1982. Pauline lived with Henry on the Lemmer ranch north of Cozad for a number of years, and they moved with their family to a ranch in western Kansas in the early 1950s. Pauline worked out of the home in several businesses and eventually realized her dream to work in the medical field. She took classes from The University of Kansas and completed an emergency medical technician internship in Kansas City, Mo. She valued education and was most proud of her daughters for their accomplishments and that both of her daughters earned college degrees. She loved her stepchildren and opened her home to those in need. After her parents died, she brought her sister, LaVaughn, into her home to live while she finished high school and made her home available to her brother, Keith. She loved telling others about them and their accomplishments. Pauline is survived by daughters, Carolyn and Don Waldren of rural Modoc, and Marlene and Bob Beeson of Newton; stepdaughter, Myrna Stithem of Tyler, Texas; stepson, Joe and Raylene Lemmer of rural Cherry Stone, Pa.; brother, Keith and Bert Carr of Goodland; sister, LaVaughn and Gene Becker of Goodland; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
