Neva Keller, 99, died Saturday (May 16, 2009) at Halstead Place Assisted Living Center in Halstead.

She was born on July 28, 1909, in Halstead to John Michael and Malvina (Allen) Lehman.

A 1926 graduate of Halstead High School, she received her teaching certificate from Emporia State Teachers College and taught school for five years at Haven, Hartford and Macksville.

She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women and G.M.H. Club, all of Halstead. On Jan. 18, 1933, she married Arthur Benton Charles Keller in Anthony. He died on Dec. 14, 1998.

Survivors include a son, Robert (Charlotte) Keller of Halstead; daughters, Katherine Ewy of Halstead and Carol (Vernon) Nightingale of Fort Cobb, Okla.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, John Arthur Keller; a grandson, Donald Nightingale; a sister, Florence Mirick; and a son-in-law, Forrest Ewy.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead, with the family present to greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kaufman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Irving Simon presiding.

Burial will follow at Halstead Cemetery in Halstead. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church or Halstead Cemetery Association in care of the funeral home.
