Playwright Carol Hughes will speak about the fun of writing melodramas during the Feb. 21 meeting of the Kansas Writers Association when it meets at Rockwell Library, 5939 E. Ninth St. in Wichita.

Hughes’ first book of plays will be published this year by the Samuel French Co., one of the biggest play publishers in the world. She is working on her 11th melodrama and was a co-writer of the “Menopause-a-palooza,” which had two sold-out runs at Cabaret Old Town.

She also is writing “Beauty School Musical” for them, which will open in 2010 and two more shows for Mosley Street Melodrama.

The meeting is free to the public.
