The Newton Home School Panther boys’ basketball team dropped three games last week.

The Panthers lost to Great Plains Academy 50-46 Tuesday in Goessel. Great Plains led 31-23 at the half. Jarrett Holle and Ryan Kliewer scored 15 points each for the Panthers. Zach Oller added eight points.

On Friday at Lindley Hall, the Panthers fell to the Smokey Valley Home School Eagles 77-62. The Eagles led 42-33 at the half. Holle scored 26 points for the Panthers. Kliewer scored 12 points.

On Saturday, the Panthers lost to the Wichita Defenders junior varsity. Holle scored 16 points, followed by Kliewer with 13 and Oller with nine.

The Panthers play Wichita Adventist Academy Tuesday in Wichita.

WHITEWATER — The Remington Bronco girls were edged by Wichita Trinity Academy 50-44 Friday in rural Whitewater.

Trinity used a 20-11 fourth quarter to win the game.

Melissa Brewer scored 10 points for Trinity.

Katie Regier scored 13 points for Remington. Quin Tillotson scored 11.

Remington plays Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Sedgwick Invitational.

BURRTON — The Burrton Charger girls were edged by Pretty Prairie 36-34 Friday in a non-league game between Heart of the Plains League rivals.

Pretty Praire trailed 13-1 after the first quarter and 21-15 at the half, but held Burrton to 13 points in the second half.

Katie Graber led Pretty Prairie with 12 points.

Burrton plays Peabody-Burns at 7:30 p.m. Monday to open play in the Eli J. Walter Invitational in Elbing.

The Redskins used a 15-6 second-quarter run to lead 22-12 at the half.

Aspen Frey scored 10 points for Goessel, which faces Hutchinson Central Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Eli J. Walter Invitational in Elbing.

Lauren Wolfenberger scored 33 points as the Newton Home School Panther girls’ basketball team downed the Smokey Valley Home School Eagles 61-31 Friday at Lindley Hall.

The Panthers led 27-15 at the half, putting the game away with a 19-5 fourth quarter.

“Our girls played a very good complete game tonight against a pretty good home school team from Salina,” Panthers coach Merlin Esau said. “I was proud of their hard work and performance.”

Niki Meier scored 14 points for the Panthers.

Michaela McDaneld scored 19 points for Smokey Valley.

WICHITA — The Newton Home School Panthers girls’ basketball team downed the Wichita Home School Warriors junior varsity 44-37 Saturday in Wichita.

Tied 22-22 after three quarters, the Panthers pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Jaci Garver led the Panthers with 14 points. Lauren Wolfenberger added 13 points.

Lori Sidwell scored 16 points for the Warriors.

The Panthers are 6-4 and play the Reno County Sabres Feb. 3 in Partridge.
