HILLSBORO — The Hesston High School girls’ basketball team fell to fourth-ranked (Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, Class 3A) Thomas More Prep-Marian 58-47 Saturday in the finals of the Hillsboro Trojan Classic.

It was the first title for the Monarchs, 11-0.

TMP led 30-21 at the half on the strength of a 19-10 second quarter.

Kaylee Holub scored 24 points with nine rebounds for TMP. Maddie Holub added 11 points.

Brea Short scored 12 points for Hesston. Kelcie Frey scored 10 points with 10 rebounds.

Hesston hosts Chapman Tuesday.

Dakota Kaufman scored 22 points with 13 rebounds to lead the Hillsboro Trojans to a 50-45 win over the rival Marion Warriors in the third-place game of the Hillsboro Trojan Classic.

Hillsboro led 14-4 after the first quarter and held on the rest of the way.

Allie Faul scored 14 points for Hillsboro.

Lindsay Hett led Marion with 17 points. Julia Zeiner scored 11 points.

Hillsboro was 17 of 29 from the field.

Marion hosts Council Grove Friday. Hillsboro plays Feb. 3 at Lyons.
