OVERLAND PARK — The Newton High School wrestling team placed sixth out of 22 teams at the Blue Valley Northwest Invitational Friday and Saturday in Overland Park.
Blue Valley Northwest won the tournament at 159, followed by Olathe South at 138.5, Manhattan at 132.5, Blue Valley West at 130, Maize at 124.5, Newton at 121.5, St. Thomas Aquinas at 108, Gardner-Edgerton at 99.5, Kansas City Turner at 99.5, Lawrence at 91, Hutchinson at 81.5, Blue Valley North at 79.5, Olathe East at 78, Bonner Springs at 77, Kansas City Washington at 59.5, Blue Valley at 56.5, Shawnee Mission Northwest at 41, Topeka at 30.5, Shawnee Mission South at 20, Lawrence Free State at 19 and Andover at five.
Newton was led by Rylan Dalke at 130 pounds, finishing 4-0 to win the title.
Travis Rogers finished 5-1 at 160 pounds to finish second. Seth Klein finished third at 125 pounds at 4-1. David Garcia finished fourth at heavyweight at 5-2. Sixth-place finishes went to Miles Johns at 119 pounds (3-3), Robbie Dawkins at 135 pounds (2-3) and Cole Inghram at 215 pounds (3-3).
Also competing for Newton were Zeke Clardy at 103 pounds (1-2), Pablo Llamas at 112 pounds (1-2), Joel Gouvion at 140 pounds (1-2), Hugh McConnell at 145 pounds (1-2), Nathan Murphy at 152 pounds (2-2), Garrett Garcia at 171 pounds (1-2) and Nathaniel Martens at 189 pounds (2-2).
The Railers wrestle at 6 p.m. Thursday at Winfield.
