The Delta Blues Museum plans a 4,000 square foot expansion to provide space for large exhibits.

Museum director Shelly Ritter says $1.8 million in grants have been secured to pay for the expansion. Ritter hopes bids can be accepted next summer after all architectural drawings are completed and approved.

Ritter says the permanent Muddy Water’s cabin exhibit also is expected to move into the expansion where it can be erected to its actual height. Right now, the top section of the cabin is not included, as the ceiling height of the museum is too low.

Grants have come from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, the Mississippi Arts Commission and the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
