The Hutchinson Community College Symphonic Band will have a concert to ring in the holiday season on Dec. 5.

The concert will be at 8 p.m. at the B.J. Warner Auditorium in the Stringer Fine Arts Center.

The concert will feature several holiday classics performed by the HCC Symphonic Band, including the musical compositions “Carol of the Bells,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival.” The symphonic band also will perform some non-holiday classics, including “Three Bach Chorales,” “America the Beautiful,” and “Emblem of Unity.”

The HCC Symphonic Band performs under the direction of HCC director of bands Jeff Pelischek.

“These are some of the most well-known arrangements of Christmas music available for wind bands,” said Pelischek. “This is the first time that this particular concert (at HCC) has featured Christmas music, largely due to the difficulty level of the other compositions on the program.”

The HCC bands have been featured performers at a variety of events, including the Kansas Music Educators Association and other competitive and community venues.

Tickets for the concert are just $5, with HCC students admitted free. Tickets are available for purchase by calling the HCC Fine Arts ticket office at (620) 665-3503.
