Goessel Elementary School received the Governor’s Achievement Award for 2008.

Goessel Elementary School received the Governor’s Achievement Award for 2008.

To earn the award, a school must earn the building level standard of excellence on state assessment tests for both reading and math, meet all Adequate Yearly Progress standards and be in the top 5 percent of all elementary schools in the state.

“Our staff and students have worked extremely hard,” said superintendent John Fast. “Our staff is going the extra yard to help all students learn.”

One other area elementary school earned the award, the Walton Rural Life Center. About 44 elementary schools statewide earned the award.

There will be a formal presentation of the award to Goessel Elementary at the school’s Christmas program Dec. 16.
