Work is set to begin Nov. 13 on waterline reconstruction along North Main Street. The project will increase flow capacity in the area and loop the water system, which will help reduce the number of customers without service during maintenance work and provide better fire service to those in the area, according to a city of Newton news release.

The contractor, Mies Construction, planned to deliver notices late this week to the adjacent property owners along Main Street from 13th Street to Old Highway 81 on the north.

This project will involve some directional drilling and an open cut waterline placement across Sand Creek along the east side of the bridge. The contractor will work with city water maintenance staff for installation of new service lines to some properties along the project as well.

The project will be complete in February 2009, weather permitting, according to the city.
