Question: It’s open forum week. What’s on your mind?

• I've just finished reading all the Letters to the Editor in Tuesday's Kansan, and am really impressed by the eloquence of my fellow Newtonians and North Newtonians.  I moved here two decades ago because Newton seemed to be such a nice town, and it just keeps getting better and better!

• I was told at a rehab center that people who continue to complain must enjoy complaining. Newton has survived because of the railroad for many years, so I would say the people who continue to complain about it do so because they enjoy complaining.

• To all owners who let their dogs stay outside and bark ‘til all hours: Do you not hear them? We do. It’s not the dog’s fault; just let them in. Better yet, if you don’t want to be bothered, I’m sure there is somewhere out there who would love to give him a good home. Just let him in.

• Parents, when you are dropping your children at school, remember you still have to obey all the traffic laws.

• Everyone, please remember straw for the animals you leave outdoors. If you are unable to provide minimal care for your animal, please don’t make it suffer. Surrender it to the humane society.

• Leave the trains alone. They’ve been here a lot longer than you people. I love to hear the whistle, and I love to count the cars as they go by. Also, the trains are a standard of Newton.
