• While I was doing some business at the Harvey County Courthouse recently, a group of fourth-graders came in with their teachers. They were led by none other than Judge Ted Ice. Just wanted to remind the community what a wonderful treasure we have with Judge Ice and his family. They’ve been so important to Newton. I just want him to know and want everyone to know what a great person he is for our community.

• Why don’t our city commissioners spend some of our tax dollars on putting some lights on the bicycle path? It’s very dark down there. They’ve got everything torn up. Now’s a good time to put an electrical line so they don’t have to come back in and do it years later. If we can afford to buy an old bank building we’re going to have to spend millions of dollars on, why can’t the city buy some lights to put on the bike path to keep it secure so people can see it at night? It’s a very-well-used facility, and it’s going to look real pretty down there, but it’d be nice if it had lights on it.
