The Bethel College menís basketball team has a tough task ahead of it in the season opener.

The Threshers face Northwestern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Friday in Alva, Okla.

The Rangers are a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division I school in the Sooner Athletic Conference. NWOSU was picked to finish fifth out of 12 teams.

The Rangers are led by NAIA Division I honorable mention All-American Brandon Brown, All-SAC forward Termaine Snyder and guard Jason Rogers, a transfer from NCAA Division I Stephen F. Austin State.

Brown averaged 13.17 points a game. Snyder averaged 11.42 points and 5.42 rebounds a game. Rogers averaged 1.1 points a game in 20 games for Stephen F. Austin, which reached the NIT last season.

Bethel is looking to improve from last yearís 9-20 season. Leading returnees for the Threshers are senior guard Jordon Regehr, who averaged 10.38 points and 1.48 steals a game; sophomore forward Matt Regier, who averaged 10.10 points and 5.43 rebounds a game; senior guard Todd Rambo, who averaged 9.41 points and 2.14 assists a game; and sophomore guard Thomas Buckner, who averaged 8.15 points and 2.96 assists a game.

Regier is expected to miss the first few weeks of the season while he is with the football team.
