The city commission approved a resolution declaring the city’s intent to issue bonds for a new cardiac catherization laboratory in Newton at its Tuesday night meeting.

The project is being conducted by Newton Cardiac Services, a new cooperative effort between Newton Medical Center, Via Christi Health System Inc. and several cardiologists.

The lab will be on land adjacent to NMC that is owned by Newton Medical Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of NMC. The request for industrial revenue bonds is expected to be between $1.1 million and $1.3 million dollars and will be used to purchase equipment for the facility.
