The Newton High School freshmen football team combined with sophomore players to take on what few players Arkansas City had left Monday afternoon at Fischer Field.

The Newton team won the game 42-6. While not a true freshman game, it capped an unbeaten season for the novice Railers.

Freshman quarterback Austin Vermillion rushed for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass. Sophomore Alex Dorrell caught a touchdown pass and returned an interception for a touchdown.

Dominic Davis, Hugh McConnell and Josh Floerke each rushed for a touchdown.

Arkansas City, which suited up about 25 players, less than half of what Newton had, scored on a pass in the fourth quarter.

The game marked the end of the season for the Railer freshmen and junior varsity teams.
