MCAA cross division

Hoisington 35, Halstead 6

HALSTEAD — The combination of rushing between Carl Hickel and Corey Engstrom along with 113 yards passing on seven attempts by Zach Higgins led Hoisington to a 35- 6 victory over Halstead Friday night in MCAA cross division play in Halstead.

Both Hickel and Engstrom rushed for two touchdowns. Jerad Powell rushed for one. Hoisington finished the night with 367 total yards on offense.

Halstead’s Cody Ratcliffe racked up half of the Dragons’ total yards with 155 yards receiving and one touchdown. Ratcliffe also rushed for 43 yards. Tyler Armendariz added 63 yards rushing for the Dragons.

Hoisington scored first on the Dragons and kept their momentum, shutting out Halstead 21-0 in the first half.

The Dragons put together a drive and struck back in the third with a 28-yard pass from McKee to Ratcliffe, putting the score at 28-6 going into the fourth.

Halstead ended their scoring drives in the third, and a final fourth quarter touchdown for Hoisington ended the game at 35-6.

Hoisington improves to 3-1. Halstead falls to 2-2 on the season and resumes Central Division play at Nickerson.

Hesston 63, Nickerson 21

HESSTON — The Hesston Swathers racked up 300 yards offense to down Nickerson 63-21 Friday night in Mid-Central Activities Association Central Division play.

Hesston scored on offense, defense and special teams.

The Swathers led 35-7 after the first quarter. Hesston rebounds after a 6-0 loss to Wichita Collegiate last week, improving to 3-1, 2-1 in division play.

Nickerson falls to 0-4, 0-2 in the division.

Landon Unruh led Hesston with 107 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns.

With Hesston leading 14-0, Nickerson’s Hector Rodriguez returned a kickoff 99 yards for a score. Hesston’s Rob Moore answered with an 84-yard kickoff return for a score.

Michael Janzen passed for 22 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 71 yards and a score. Chad Wallenberg passed for 52 yards on one completion with a touchdown and rushed for 67 yards.

The Hesston defense managed a couple of forays into the endzone. Clint Janzen returned a fumble 49 yards for a score. Austin Hershberger returned an interception 40 yards for a score.

Wesston Cottrell led Nickerson’s offense with 153 yards rushing on 21 carries with two touchdowns.

Hesston plays Friday at Smoky Valley in Lindsborg.

LYONS — The Hillsboro Trojans claimed a win on the road in Mid-Central Activities Association play Friday, stopping Lyons 35-7.

Hillsboro led 28-0 at the half.

Ishmail Morris rushed for 146 yards with three touchdowns on 22 carries for the Trojans. Jacob Fish passed for 166 yards and a touchdown. Fish also rushed for a touchdown.

Lyons’ Jake Craig rushed for 123 yards and passed for 104 yards.

Hillsboro is 3-1, 2-0 in Mid Division play. Lyons falls to 1-3, 0-2 in division play. Hillsboro hosts 0-4 Sterling at 7 p.m. Friday.

SEDGWICK — Ell-Saline continues to lay waste to the Heart of America League.

This week, Ell-Saline’s victim was Sedgwick 50-23 in Sedgwick.

Ell-Saline is 4-0 overall and in HOAL play. Sedgwick falls to 2-2, 0-2 in league play.

For Sedgwick, Jake Napper threw for 143 yards and three touchdowns. Wade Hansen rushed for 131 yards. Hansen caught two touchdown passes.

Ell-Saline’s Tate Omli hit 19 of 31 passes for 291 yards and five touchdowns. He added a rushing score.

Okla. Panhandle State 31, Tabor 15

GOODWELL, Okla. — The Tabor College Bluejays fell to 0-3 with a 31-15 loss to NCAA Divison II Oklahoma Panhandle State University Saturday on the road in non-conference play.

The win was the second straight for the 2-3 Aggies. Tabor beat OPSU last year, but now has lost 10 straight.

Tabor held a 254-248 advantage in total offense.

Demetrius Cox had 18 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown for Tabor. Quarterback Bryan Knighton hit four of eight passes for 120 yards with two interceptions and a touchdown. Marcus Manny hit a 31-yard field goal.

OPSU’s individual stats were not listed, but the Aggies had -11 yards rushing and 259 yards passing. Panhandle State rushed for a touchdown, passed for two, returned an interception for a score and returned a punt for a score. The Aggies managed just one PAT kick.

Tabor hosts nationally ranked Friends at 2 p.m. Saturday for homecoming.
