Nearly 92,000 students enrolled this fall at the state’s six universities, up 2 percent from the previous year and another new record.

The universities’ total student population has increased steadily in recent years, but this year’s jump is the largest in the past five years.

The state Board of Regents, which oversees the higher education system, says 91,872 students were enrolled on the 20th day of classes on each campus. That date varies by institution.

All six universities saw enrollments rise.

The largest percentage increase belonged to The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., at 6.3 percent, though the growth on the university’s Lawrence campus was 2.5 percent.
