Liz Goering, daughter of Dr. Randall and Carol Goering, left Aug. 9 for Akron, Pa., for training to begin a year-long mission assignment with Mennonite Central Committee.


Liz Goering, daughter of Dr. Randall and Carol Goering, left Aug. 9 for Akron, Pa., for training to begin a year-long mission assignment with Mennonite Central Committee. She has been accepted to a one-year assignment in Honduras under the Service and Learning Together program.

Aftter she arrived in Honduras, Goering spent two weeks in language studies and then moved to her assignment in an orphanage for HIV/AIDS children.

She will spend the rest of her time working with preschool children and tutoring older children after school.

Goering is a 2008 graduate of The University of Kansas and a member of Faith Mennonite Church in Newton.

MCC has established S.A.L.T. as a year-long cross-cultural immersion experience for young adults from the United States and Canada. Service assignments are available in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America/Caribbean and the Middle East.
