Newton has an excellent recreation center with a fine, helpful, trained and efficient staff which make the members welcome and keep everything bright and clean. Its central location fills a number of needs. Its usage has grown, and it needs to be expanded; some areas are crowded, a pool for “swimming only” seems to be needed, and other additions are needed to accommodate other activities that could be programmed.

Local ownership and operation through the recreation commission has served Newton well. An outside “for-profit” organization would forfeit local control, probably increase the cost of membership and lose the “personal touch” now experienced, as well as cease to reflect local needs.

Newton should be proud of its recreation center and support every effort to expand its services.
