Communities in southern Harvey County prepare for July 4 activities.

Burrton’s Independence Day celebration will get under way Friday evening and feature a full day of activities Saturday.

Buttons for the celebration will cost $4 before Saturday, and $4.50 on Saturday. Ride wristbands will cost $3.

The celebration will begin with a 7 p.m. street dance and an 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. moonlight swim at the city pool.

The Saturday schedule will begin with breakfast at 7 a.m. at the senior center and conclude at 10 p.m. with fireworks.

The full Saturday schedule is as follows:

7 a.m. — Breakfast at Burrton Senior Center

9 a.m. — Three on three basketball; beach volleyball

10 a.m. — Cow patty bingo

10 to 11 a.m. — Kids games

11 a.m. to noon — Kids races

Noon — Horseshoe tournament

Noon to 2 p.m. — Free swim

12:30 p.m. — Turtle race

2 to 3 p.m. — Swim contest

3 p.m. — Medallion hunt

3 to 6 p.m. — Co-ed softball (ages 16 and older)

3 to 9 p.m — Money machine

5 p.m. — Women’s rolling pin toss and Men’s log toss

8:30 p.m. — Zumba dance demonstration

9 to 10 p.m. — Drawing for prizes

10 p.m. — Fireworks display

All activities listed will be in the Burrton City Park


7 p.m. Saturday — Moonwalk and inflatable obstacle course, free glow necklaces and patriotic temporary tatoos for kids at Sedgwick High School

9:45 p.m. Saturday — Fireworks at Sedgwick High School.


6 p.m. Saturday — Lions Club barbecue at the Whitewater ball diamond with fireworks to follow.
