Vanessa Rae Stucky, Christopher Dugan


Frank and Kathy Stucky of Newton, and Tony Gooden and Jerri Stucky of Antonio, Colo., along with Randy and Cindy Dugan of El Dorado, and Norman and Sheila Backstrom of Clay Center, announce the engagement of their children, Vanessa Rae Stucky and Christopher Dugan.

Vanessa is a 1997 graduate of Newton High School and received an undergraduate degree from The University of Kansas in both accounting and business administration before receiving her graduate degree in the Laws of Taxation from the University of Denver. After several years of post-graduation work in New York City, Vanessa accepted an assignment as a Peace Corps volunteer working in rural Kenya, Africa. While there, she specialized in micro-finance banks and entrepreneurship training, as well as education programs for local children including AIDS awareness. She continues her work through Ascend Pamoja, Inc., a non-profit corporation she founded. Vanessa is a CPA, currently working for a large international accounting firm.

Christopher graduated from Newton High School in 1994. Prior to graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in political science and then acquiring a law degree at The University of Kansas School of Law, he served honorably aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Anzio (CG-68) in the U.S. Navy and then as a professional firefighter/EMT for the city of Manhattan. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Colorado.
